to Excellence™ Designation

Ben Taub and Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospitals and Quentin Mease
Community Hospital — have achieved Pathway to Excellence™ designation by
the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Don’t Let Alcohol
Ruin St. Patrick’s Day and March Madness
The Harris County
Hospital District encourages people to carefully consider the
consequences of consuming alcohol, and reminds everyone that in Texas
only people over the age of 21 can legally drink alcohol. If drinking in
celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, the NCAA’s March Madness College
Basketball Tournament, Spring Break or whatever the occasion, the
hospital district wants you know your limits.

Hospital District Recruiting Summer Junior Volunteers
Attention high school students! Looking for ways to spend your summer?
The Harris County Hospital District’s Volunteer and Guest Services
Department is accepting applications for its Summer Junior Volunteer
Program. The Summer Junior Volunteer Program is open to students who are
entering the high school grades of 9-12 and are at least 14 to 18 years

Statewide Community Service Award
The Harris County Hospital District will receive the Texas Hospital
Association's 2009 Excellence in Community Service Award for its
innovative Community Behavioral Health Program. The award will be
presented on Feb. 18 at THA's Leadership Conference in Austin. (more)

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is famous for tempting foods that
could make any Texan's mouth water. From sausage on a stick and funnel
cakes, to fried Twinkies and giant turkey legs, those high-calorie,

Hospital District Offers H1N1 Vaccines for $14
The
Harris County Hospital District is offering H1N1
flu vaccines
to adults at all of
its community health
centers
located across Harris County on specific days and times. The cost of the
vaccine is $14. The vaccine is one of the best ways to protect against
the H1N1 virus.

Medical Imaging Accepting Applications
The Harris County
Hospital District's School of Diagnostic Medical Imaging is accepting
applications for its programs of Diagnostic Medical Radiography and
Diagnostic Medical Sonography. (more)
HCHD's Troubleshooters Offering $3 Immunizations, $5 Seasonal Flu Shots
The Harris County Hospital District's Troubleshooters Program is
offering $3 immunizations and $5 seasonal flu shots throughout March
for children. Adults can receive $10 seasonal flu shots as well. At this
time, H1N1 influenza vaccines are not included.

Hospital
has begun construction of a new
Emergency
Center to better serve the Harris County community.
This construction will require the redirection of non-emergency
ambulance traffic for the duration of the project. (more)
Health Fairs
To educate
and encourage people to use the public health care system, the Harris
County Hospital District provides promotional health care services in
community settings including schools, churches, non-profit
organizations, advocacy group events and a variety civic group
locations.

Free HIV Testing
Testing is confidential and anonymous. You must be 13 years or
older. It's quick and requires no blood. Instead, the Harris County
Hospital District uses a swab sample collected from inside one's mouth.
