School Based Clinics To better meet the health care needs of the community, the Harris County Hospital District, in conjunction with five school districts, has established seven school-based clinics in areas of the community that need it most. HCHD’s school-based clinics provide health care to children in neighborhoods with no access to healthcare services, and enable early detection of illness and intervention, as well as help promote children's health issues. HCHD school-based clinics provide healthcare services for more than 28,000 pediatric patient visits. Children and adolescents from birth to 21 years may receive regular physical exams, primary preventive care, Texas Health Steps screenings, sports physicals, developmental assessments, vision and hearing testing, immunizations, lead and anemia screening and health education, treatment of minor and acute illnesses, management of chronic health problems such as asthma, and coordination of referrals for specialized care. School-based clinical staffs consist of advanced practice nurses, registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, and clinical clerk specialists. Physician supervision is provided by faculty from Baylor College of Medicine. The clinics are open Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., including summer months. The Harris County
