Protect Yourself from Getting the Flu

Flu, or influenza, is a virus that can cause respiratory illnesses that usually occur in the winter. The flu virus is spread from one person to another by sneezing, coughing or direct contact. While most people recover from the flu in a week or two, it can be life-threatening for the very young, the old or those with chronic disease.

One of the best ways to protect yourself against the flu is to get a flu shot.

To avoid the flu:

  • Get enough sleep.

  • Eat a healthy diet.

  • Exercise regularly.

  • Wash your hands often.

  • Stay away from people who have the flu.
