HCHD and Baylor College of Medicine Host Breast Cancer Survivor's Event

HOUSTON (Oct. 14, 2008) –  To celebrate women who are winning the fight with breast cancer, the Harris County Hospital District, Baylor College of Medicine and the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center at BCM will honor breast cancer survivors at the Ben Taub Breast Cancer Awareness Program and Survivor Celebration being held Friday, Oct. 17. 

The Houston Comets head coach and general manager, Karleen Thompson will serve as emcee. Speakers include Harris County Judge Ed Emmett; Congressman Al Green, 9th Congressional District; Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee, 18th Congressional District; Houston Councilman and Mayor Pro Tem Adrian Garcia; Dr C. Kent Osborne, director of the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Cancer at BCM; David S. Lopez, HCHD president and CEO; Dr. Angel Rodriguez, medical oncologist at the Ben Taub Breast Center; and Pastor Ladislao Robinson, Ben Taub Chaplain.

The Harris County Hospital District is the public health care system for the nation's third most-populous county. It provides more than one million health care visits each year to residents of Harris County. The hospital district operates Ben Taub General Hospital, Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, Quentin Mease Community Hospital, 12 community health centers, a dental center, eight school-based clinics, 13 homeless shelter clinics and five mobile health units.
