CONSTRUCTION AT LBJ
EMERGENCY CENTER
Beginning Tuesday, October 20, 2009, LBJ
Hospital
will start construction of their new
Emergency
Center.
This construction will require the redirection of non-emergency
ambulance traffic and the temporary closure of some of the ambulance
docks. These changes will require ambulance crews to move their units
from the remaining limited dock spaces to adjacent parking areas so that
arriving ambulances will have space to unload their emergency patients. LBJ
hospital is working to minimize the impact on emergency ambulances by
redirecting all non-emergency ambulances through the parking area to an
alternate entrance on the south side of the facility.
All units shall make every effort to
move their unit to an appropriate parking area as soon as their patient
is in a position to be managed by either the remaining crew member(s) or
the hospital staff. Other units (e.g., law enforcement, supervisor
vehicles, medical examiner) will park in a location that does not occupy
ambulance parking and does not impede the traffic flow of arriving or
departing ambulances. Units should follow the posted signage and
direction of hospital security staff concerning the appropriate parking
locations and traffic flow.
At
the south parking lot entrance, non-emergency ambulances should stop at
the left hand gate and press the intercom button to ask Security to open
the access gate.
A diagram of the LBJ south parking lot and
temporary non-emergency ambulance entrance is available below.
Limited emergency ambulance dock space will remain for the duration of
the construction of the new
emergency
center,
which is scheduled to be completed January 2011. The following are
diagrams of the construction and traffic flow appropriate for the
designated time periods.
When the new
Emergency
Center
opens, there will be five (5) ambulance bays at LBJ.
A final phase of renovation will be
completed by the end of 2011 to provide a total of nine (9) ambulance
bays.
