Hospital District to Host Free Community Health Fairs HOUSTON (July 15, 2009) – The Harris County Hospital District will hold free community health fairs throughout the summer and fall. The health fairs are open to the public and offer residents one-stop convenience for health screenings and immunizations. Hospital district staff will provide screenings for blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, along with many others. Healthcare professionals and vendors will be on hand to discuss exercise, heart health, stroke prevention, women’s health and nutrition. Information will be given on exercise, weight-loss plans, smoking cessation, breast cancer, HIV/AIDS and more.
The Harris County Hospital District is the public healthcare system for the nation’s third most-populous county. It provides more than one million healthcare visits each year to residents of Harris County. The hospital district operates Ben Taub General Hospital, Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, Quentin Mease Community Hospital, 13 community health centers, a dialysis center, a dental center, eight school-based clinics, 13 homeless shelter clinics and five mobile health units.
