Harris County Hospital District Recruiting Summer Junior Volunteers

HOUSTON (March 9, 2010) – Attention high school students! Looking for ways to spend your summer? How about volunteering at the Harris County Hospital District? 

The Harris County Hospital District’s Volunteer and Guest Services Department is accepting applications for its Summer Junior Volunteer Program. The Summer Junior Volunteer Program is open to students who are entering the high school grades of 9-12 and are at least 14 to 18 years of age. 

HCHD volunteers work at Ben Taub General Hospital, Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, Quentin Mease Community Hospital and in the hospital district’s community health centers. 

Duties can range from being a hospitality host/greeter, performing clerical duties to assisting in a nursing station. 

The program runs from June 7 to Aug. 13. Students must commit to volunteer eight of the program’s 10-weeks.

To apply, students are required to fill out an application, write an essay and include a personal reference letter. The students, along with a parent or guardian, also must attend one of the two orientations being offered on May 1 or 15. 

Applications must be submitted by March 31.
