Community Health Worker Training and Certification Program The Harris County Hospital District’s Community Outreach Services department is an authorized Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Community Health Worker Training and Certification Program for participants who want to become a certified community health worker.
What is a Community
Health Worker (CHW)? They provide needed services such as:
The free 160-hour program prepares participants to become certified and prepares the participant to work in a variety of community settings. A certified community health worker must complete 20 hours of continuing education acceptable to DSHS during each two-year renewal period. At least 10 hours may come from training programs not certified by DSHS. To register, call Community Outreach Service at 713-566-6395.
