County Hospital District CEO Listed Among Nation’s Top 25 Minority
Executives in Healthcare
Harris County Hospital District (HCHD) President and CEO David S.
Lopez has been named one of the nation’s Top 25 Minority Executives in
Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine. This is the second time
Lopez has been named to the publication’s list, which features
individuals who exemplify outstanding leadership and the ability and
desire to help change the healthcare industry.

HCHD to Launch School
of Medical Sonography
The Harris County Hospital District is opening a School of Medical
Sonography, which will begin its inaugural session in September 2008. It
will host an information session on Tuesday, May 13, during which
attendees will learn about the application process for the program and
about sonography as a career.

HCHD Broke Ground on
Two New Health Centers
The Harris County Hospital District broke ground in November on two new
health centers that will serve nearly 140,000 new patient visits
annually. The nearly $27 million worth of construction is part of the
district’s $158 million multi-year facilities expansion/renovation and

Health Fairs
To educate
and encourage people to access their local public healthcare system, the
Harris County Hospital District provides promotional healthcare services
in community settings such as health fairs at school districts,
churches, non-profit organizations, advocacy groups, and a variety of
other civic group locations.

Psychiatry Program Honored Nationally
The Harris County Hospital District’s Community Behavioral Health
Program (CBHP) has received the 2007 Gold Award for community-based
programs from the American Psychiatric Association.

Free HIV Testing
Testing is confidential and anonymous. You must be 13 years of age
or older. It is quick and requires no blood. Instead, HCHD uses OraQuick,
a test that uses a swab sample collected from the inside of one's mouth.
