Your Rights and
Obligations as a Patient The
Harris County Hospital District is committed to providing excellent
customer service to our patients, visitors and community. The following
lists explain what patients can expect to receive during their care, their
rights as a patient, and what is expected of patients in return.
As an HCHD patient, you can expect:
- quality health care service delivered
with respect and compassion,
reasonable accommodations regardless of your age, race, religion,
national origin, sex, or handicap, and
- a detailed explanation of your medical
bill.
HCHD patients have the right to:
- have their care needs and requirements
met promptly
- receive complete information and prior
approval before the start of any procedure or treatment, including
experimental
- procedures or research projects
- receive complete information from your
physician concerning diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis explained in
terms you can easily understand
- complete confidentiality in the
communication and recording of information pertaining to your care
- refuse treatment to the extent
permitted by law and to be informed of the medical consequences of
that action
- receive appropriate services within
the capacity of the Hospital District
As our patient, we ask that you:
- provide us with accurate health and
medical information
- follow the explained prescription
for your care
- keep your appointments or promptly
notify us if you will be unable to
- be considerate of all patients and
employees,
- promptly pay you medical bill, and
- that you follow our facilities’
rules and regulations.
